- ALPHABET BOOK: Animalia by Graeme Base: Just like the wonderful A Book of Shadowboxes: A Story of the ABCs, but even spazzier.
- ALPHABET BOOK: The Bird Alphabet Book, written by Jerry Pallotta, illustrated by Edgar Stewart. Apparently, he gives the same treatment to several other subjects from the Jet Alphabet Book to the Vegetable Alphabet Book.
- PICTURE BOOK: Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories by Dr. Suess (the other stories are Gertrude McFuzz and The Big Brag).
- LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK: The Cow Went Over the Mountain, written by Jeanette Krinsley, illustrated by Feodor Rojankovsky. Rojankovsky was one of the most talented illustrators in the Golden Books artists guild, and this is a nice study of "the grass is always greener."
- EARLY READER PAPERBACK: Richard Scarry's Splish-Splash Sounds. (For example, when a hippo slips while ice skating, it sounds like "Swi-i-i-ssh boom.")
- EARLY READER PAPERBACK: The Berenstain Bears and the Ghost of the Forest (I am a Berenstain fangirl.)
- EARLY READER PAPERBACK: Would You Like to Play Hide & Seek in this Book With Lovable Furry Old Grover? Please Say Yes! Let this be a lesson in the value of always reading the name of the writer and illustrator when reading aloud. We love The Monster at the End of This Book, and as soon as I saw Grover + Jon Stone + Mike Smollin, I knew this would be just as rewarding and funny as the first title, and it is. Grover tries to hide from the reader via camouflage, craftily placed speech balloons, etc. Hilarity ensues, as you knew it would.
- BOARD BOOK: Sign About Meal Time, illustrated by Anthony Lewis: Love it! I've been wondering how to sign "yogurt" and such. I can look up most everything on SigningSavvy.com, but another book never killed a girl.
